The Road to Bencab

The BenCab Museum is (I think) a just recently opened museum along Asin Road, Baguio. On our visit last January of this year, our friends who hosted our stay in Baguio, suggested that we go visit this new museum.

BenCab Museum is located at Km. 6 Asin Road, a brief 15-minute drive from the center of Baguio City.
This museum is a fulfillment of BenCab's long-time dream, that is building his very own museum! It is a project of the BenCab Art Foundation, a non-stock organization that supports activities related to the arts and environment.

True enough, this museum showcases a gallery of BenCab's masterpieces and art.  This modern minimalist three-storey place houses not only his creation but also his own collection of tribal artifacts and crafts featuring Northern Philippines.

The huge wooden doors welcomes every visitor with much anticipated curiosity, what can I see in this museum? why is it talked about?. But it is clear that this museum is for those whose hearts are open to go beyond the paintings and imagine oneself inside the creative mind of the artists. It is an adventure. You feel the passion, the story and history of each painting.
When I walked inside, just settling in, the large glass windows, the high ceiling and wall paintings just made me excited to go down the stairs to the first hall.

Paintings you will see upon entering
An entrance fee of 100php (adults) was to be made at the desk along with registering your name and infos. Outside food and drinks are not allowed inside the premises but you may be able to avail at their inside cafe. Cameras are allowed but no flash, tripods or anything fancy. Pets not allowed in the premises.

You may ask the desk if they have a museum guide pamphlet.

I've captured some photos that I really liked. Here's some of them. :)

I particularly liked this art on my right. It may look  like art , painted art (I should say), but this is actually made out of thread. LOTS and LOTS of colorful threads.

Such a great piece of art! Very unique and creative.

The purpose of this museum is to bring the world of art - imaginative or creatively, closer to the people. This is why BenCab came into existent. To remind the people of this technological generation that art still lives! The culture of the Philippines can much be appreciated through this kind of way.

Honestly, I am less of an artistic person. I guess I can say that I'm artistic in which I let my readers see my art through my photos and travel, but I am less of a person that is artistically in drawing or art. But when I came to this museum, my emotions are quite stirred up and I caught myself travelling historically through time and seeing Philippines in another angle. Yes, visiting museums are therapeutic! :)

I know Baguio is known for the weather, for the scarves, for the blankets, for the tapestry and etc. But so is the museums. Come visit BenCab Museum, along Asin Road. It's like travelling through time and learning to appreciate again the small things in life. Be it a trip to the museum or simply just to hang out in Cafe Sabel while enjoying a warm cup of tea or coffee of your choice.
